Working on some #weaponretention. Unless the fight ends immediately, unholstering in close quarters from a standing or grounded position can be a huge liability because the other person will be able to grab the slide which will likely lead to a malfunction. At most, you will only have one free hand to deal with whatever else is happening. Using your feet to create wedges is not only a great idea for punch protection but also helps manage the distance for weapon retention. Similar to edged weapons, top or bottom position is not as relevant when there is a blade or pistol in the mix. Owning the real estate on the slide helps to keep the leverage in your favor, but there are no guarantees. For holstered firearms, I have found more success using underhooks for weapon retention over something like a Kimura grip due to my extra short arms ๐. A cross grab attempt sets up a possible arm lock situation which can then be used to transition to handcuffing (transition from the #graciesurvivaltactics course). Mahalo to @kai_ozeki for letting me work on this. Day by day ๐ฅ๐ค๐ฝ #police #selfdefense #outreach #aloha #makeadifference #trainweeklyorfightweakly #aiea #oahugrown
