We are very grateful to work in a #community that supports the work we do to build positive relationships. Occasionally, people wonder what these various activities have to do with police work, so I compiled a list of things that I have observed (thanks to #outreach) over the past 14 years: -Establishes or rebuilds #trust.
-Builds #rapport
-Decreases (or sometimes eliminates) use of force.
-Victims of crimes being more comfortable approaching us to report crime.
-Witnesses of crimes being more comfortable coming forward with information that has solved crimes.
-Citizens (especially those from other countries) being more comfortable approaching us if they need help.
-Reduces misinformation -Reduces crime by connecting youth to various programs or organizations. -Solves crimes by becoming familiar with people in our community.
-Builds positive first impressions with people who may otherwise never have law enforcement contact.
-Generates interest in our career for potential future applicants.
-Humanizes the badge. -It’s fun and doesn’t cost anything extra.
Outreach is hard to quantify, and the “return” is not always seen during the initial investment of time. I’m very fortunate to be in a position that allows me the luxury of time to build those relationships. ???⚫️?⚫️ #fbf #bellevue #police #makeadifference #oahugrown #aiea #protectbellevuedotcom
