Variable resistance kettlebell swings inspired @drjaquish Comment with your perspective
During the swing the kettlebell is actually “light” for much of the upward swing, meaning during the strongest part of the hip drive movement, you actually have less resistance. My thought process is by adding a heavy band around the hips (not the kettlebell) you increase resistance as you get to the top, forcing you to generate more force and activate the posterior chain and core at a much greater level than a normal swing. Result? A more effective exercise for building power and muscular activation. At first I was concerned about comprising good mechanics, but I actually think this may force you to have better form.
After hearing a Dr Jaquish interview on the @bengreenfieldfitness podcast I’ve been playing with different ideas on variable resistance training and so far this is my favourite. Check out the interview, some amazing ideas based on his X3 training system. ??? Check link in bio or link below for FREE breathing for BJJ program that’s been getting great reviews.
