There are many great benefits to wearing an exterior vest, including reduced back pain, comfort, and the ability to use the carrier as a grip to potentially pull or carry injured officers. A very small drawback is the control that can be potentially obtained by someone (particular a bigger / stronger person) who gets a grip on the vest. Similar to when you grab a jiu-jitsu belt, your fingers can fully encircle and connect to your palm, making traditional gi grip breaking techniques ineffective. These specific techniques are from @clu7ch79 and the DT cadre at the @kcsheriff. While the individual actions and responses may very, they all use the same underlying principles, which are to offset the balance of the subject for a takedown, and once grounded, use the ground to break the grip(s) by rotating from the top position. Huge mahalo to my friend @kai_ozeki for letting me work on this. About half of my coworkers wear the exterior vest carriers and while the likelihood of this occurring is low, it is good to know beforehand.
