The Protokip, An Old-School and Effective Mount Escape

A mount escape from No Gi Pin Escapes https://www.grapplearts.com/no-gi-pin-escapes/. This old-school move was popular among the MMA fighters back in the early 2000s and still works amazingly well if your opponent has his weight over the top of you, and if he doesn’t have his legs grapevined or crossed under your hips.

If you do this escape properly then you DON’T need huge triceps and an amazing bench press. The key is to generate momentum with your hips and only take up the load with your arms once they are almost straight. Once he’s suspended above you there are multiple ways you can finish the technique, including establishing a recumbent butterfly guard, sweeping him with the Single Leg X Guard, and attacking the legs starting with the Standard Ashi entanglement.

If you develop this escape, then it will make learning and mastering the full kipping escape (which DOES work when your opponent crosses his ankles under your butt) much easier.
