Thorough studying of his opponent was a major factor contributing to the win. Here, Renzo teaches how a BJJ fighter must map out their opponent’s game, identifying virtues and weaknesses as well as tendencies. Then it’s time to use imagination, to create hypotheses, to remember the plan the entire time. At One Championship on July 27th, Master Renzo Gracie took on Yuki Kondo, resulting in Renzo showing some amazing technical skills, eventually taking down and choking Kondo.

In the second round, Renzo did a great job managing distance, throwing occasional short combos before shooting for a single leg takedown. When Kondo defended the single, Renzo immediately transitioned to the back, then quickly got a rear takedown, secured the rear mount and applied a short choke to finish the fight
