In today’s video I’ll be reviewing a couple options to defend the double stack pass.

One of my guys was having trouble defending it today in class, so I thought I’d share what we discussed here too.

This is a pretty common pass in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, both Gi and No-Gi. In fact, it’s also one of my personal favorite passes.

With that being said, every BJJ technique has counters and defenses & I wanted to show you a few of my favorite options here.

Getting stacked sucks. So, hopefully there’s a few ideas here that you find helpful.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had an issue where I had to take some time off BJJ and had to go to the Emergency room because of that health issue.

Well, today was my very first training session back in about a month and I could feel it. If you’re older and do BJJ you probably know exactly what I’m talking about.

As you age in BJJ you can really tell the difference that a long break makes. I’m not “old” in the sense of full life. But I am for BJJ. That being said, in my mid 30s I definitely don’t recover the same as I did when I was 25.

Anyways, I wanted to share a couple ideas with you guys in relation to getting back to training BJJ after a serious injury, health issue, or whatever else took you off the mat.

Today’s question comes from John who recently had an annoying, but far too common, situation happen to him at a BJJ Tournament.

Sadly, what happen to John will, at some point or another, happen to every Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitor. I know it’s happened to me plenty of times. And if you’re not ready for the situation it can definitely throw you off and potentially ruin your performance. As was the case with John,

He said he did ok at the competition, but he felt like all the changes threw his game off and he wonders if I’ve ever experienced something like this, and If so, how do I deal with it?

So, in the video I explain an important idea for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitions to keep your mindset in the right place and how to deal with unforeseen situations that happen at competitions.

Today’s video comes as an answer to a recent question from a follower, and fellow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Practitioner, named Steve.

Steve’s question to me is whether or not I believe you should go to a low Mount or if you should get to a high Mount which is very common and very effective in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

His question is focused on which mounted BJJ position, would be more effective in a Street fight situation, against an untrained person. So in the video I share some ideas on how to use mount in a Hand-to-hand fighting situation on DUH STREETZ. And I share why I really like low mount vs an untrained person.

Today we have a question from a 1-Stripe White Belt, who we will call Bob.

He is a former Wrestler who got into BJJ, and he was pretty good at it, and the other day he was rolling with a blackbelt in the room.

Well, he tells me that he is pretty competitive, and during the roll, at some point, he got a little rough with the black belt.

Well, the black belt didn’t like that and decided he was going to put it on Bob. The Black Belt wasn’t a jerk about it after the roll and even told Bob that this was basically a teachable moment and they moved on.

Bob felt really sorry after the roll, not meaning to roll too rough with anyone, including the Black Belt…

But, after some thought, Bob got pretty upset about the way the Black Belt handled things, seeing as he wasn’t trying to be disrespectful.

Bob wants to know if I think he’s being unreasonable and how I interpret situations like this in BJJ.

Today we have a BJJ question from a fellow Black Belt Coach, Bob, who is having trouble with one of his friends who also happens to be a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Bob says that his buddy, the fellow black belt from another gym, is coming to train with him. Which he is happy about. However, his friend keeps showing up 45 minutes late to the classes he attends.

He interprets these late appearances as a form of laziness on his friend’s behalf, or maybe he just doesn’t want to do warmups. And he believes he does it because he’s a Black Belt and feels like he can do it. Regardless, he’s not sure what’s up.

At Bob’s gym, attendance is pretty strict, and he wants to know how I’d handle a situation where a someone is chronically late to classes and if I have ever faced a similar situation, and if so, how I dealt with it.

In the video I’ll explain what I think and give you some ideas on BJJ warmups too.
