I just starting working with a new student, and we are building him from the ground up. He has no martial arts experience previous to this training, although he is an incredible athlete already.
So, I’m going to be teaching him like I would any new student that wants to learn Mixed Martial Arts. So if you have been looking for a good place to start learning MMA in a step-by-step format, this is the way. ๐
Keep in mind that a beginner will not be able to master or even execute every part of a technique properly. As I like to say, the statue of David wasn’t carved from marble in one day. So to expect a student to be perfect on day one is not only foolish, but can be detrimental to their progress.
Instead, we just need the student to be able to get the big picture and see the forest for the forest. As time goes on, we will get them to see the trees, then the branches, leaves, wood grain, knots, and all the different critters that reside in those forests.
With that said, the very first thing we cover is the basic fighting stance and footwork.
