It’s such a brilliant technique. You might have also seen me use it a few times in my rolling with my students. It is incredibly effective and deceptively powerful. Don’t underestimate it.

The Lockdown is an extremely effective technique. When you have a great lockdown on it presents major options for you and a lot of trouble for your opponent. But it can be beaten. And it’s not that hard. Just a few tricks and hacks that you can easily learn and practice. Watch the video. Try it out on the mat – and let me know how you go.

When I get caught in a half guard – no problem. I just change shape. And that usually solves much of the problem and enables me to get out and back in control. Not so with this awesome RCJ Blackbelt! Watch this little trick. Easy to do and very effective.

This is a quick video of me rolling with a few of my students. It was fun and thought it would be nice to share. I always allow my competitor students to get more rolling in with me after class and by the end of rolling with them once or twice back to back no rest with fresh guys, I am spent!

This is an awesome takedown. In Jiu Jitsu, we tend not to practice takedowns as often as perhaps we should and we all know how competitions start. This Low Single is awesome for all shapes and sizes but I think where it really comes into its own is with smaller opponents taking down larger opponents. It’s incredibly effective. This video discusses in some detail how to bring your Jiu-Jitsu into a street fight in some basic moves. They are not difficult but they are certainly effective…particularly against an unskilled opponent.

In Jiu-Jitsu we often start from our Knees. But this technique works from the knees or from standing. Does not matter. Get the throw, if it doesn’t work…move straight into an Armbar. It’s incredibly effective and can end the roll/match within seconds. A couple of my students did exactly that in a recent competition. Check out the video and try it yourself on the mat.
