Several months ago, Alma got attacked at a nearby metro station (but was able to survive based sheer tenacity and determination) and the responding officer called me from the hospital to ask if we would take her in as part of our Women Empowered family. We did.

It felt really good to be recognized by the LA County Sheriff’s Department in this way, but we were even more proud to be the first people they thought to ask for help after the attack.
