Named because of the way you sway (like a zombie) during the guard break. I think the same. It is very robust & it works in the heavy scramble of competition. Just type on BJJ fingers into Google Images and you will see what happens when you get injured fingers in Jiu Jitsu. It’s not pretty. But it does not have to be that way. There is a simple technique a simple hack that can change all of that. It might take a while to adjust at first but once you do…all those aching and injured finger days will be behind you. Is this the easiest side control escape in Jiu Jitsu? I think it could be…it’s simple to do and moves you into a position where you have options. I have been asked many a time to add commentary to some of the rolls that I have filmed and posted. As my regular viewers would know, I roll regularly with my students. Many times in a continuous series. So that I get a chance to stretch my cardio and give the students time to catch their breath and think about their next attack/approach. As usual, I look to do techniques that we teach in class and that I show on The Grappling Academy YouTube channel. Getting into deep waters and battling my way out is also part of the conditioning/training routine. I hope you enjoy the commentary. So someone has you in mount – do you have an escape plan? do you have a methodology that works? that helps against that person that holds you in super tight? or perhaps that guy that is spread wide and perhaps a bit loose – so you just can’t seem to budge him / can’t bridge and roll him. This is a great little technique that can save you loads of hassle when you grab a great footlock but your partner knows how to counter. Including grabbing your lapel, jumping up on you etc…well this little trick will help stop these counters in their tracks! It’s simple and you really need it in your BJJ arsenal! In the final part of our short series…this is transitioning from an over hook x-guard to a single leg X. Actually, it really is an Ashi Garami – meaning leg entanglement. But as you will see from the video, the transition can be extremely quick. And because of this it opens up many, many options for you. Take a look at the video and give it a try on the mat. We are now dealing with a savvy opponent. They are aware of the sweeps from x-guard and they know that they need to control the variables. By moving and posting forward. But that just opens up another opportunity with a simple ‘sidekick’ – old school karate style. But used to create distance, not damage. And with that distance, opportunities open up. Watch the video.
