Back when yours truly was a purple belt, I learned an overhook closed guard trap series from Jimmy Harbison. The attacks that flows from it were a mir lock, a kimura and a triangle, but the execution on the mir lock always eluded me.

I couldn’t hit it consistently.

But recently, I had a revelation, and the success shot through the roof.

Entering the Guard in no GI can be difficult if you are used to just grabbing the collar and pulling your opponent in. Give these a try and let me know how it works for you!

Note if they drop to their knees you can still lift them back up to get under the hips or you can just go right to close guard/butterfly guard.

Just calm down…”Anti-Fundamentals” is just a way of saying these violate a lot of fundamental principles we are taught as rules about positions and submissions. These are definitely not go-to subs and they are inherently dangerous, but they are also very sneaky and unexpected. These also make some great Hail Marys for when you’re losing or have lost position and you are desperate. Hope you like them!
