This one exercise will build strength, power, and expolisveness for BJJ
The D-Ball (Dead Ball) Clean is a variation on the Power Clean.
Using the D-ball allows for working on grip, power, and explosiveness, which are all great for BJJ and is easier to learn than the power clean.
The D-Ball (Dead Ball) Clean is an exercise I was taught by Grindhouse Crossfit head coach Joe Clark. He is a a Crossfit coach, powerlifter, and expert in strength and conditioning. Joe helped me out with instruction and technique with using a D-ball to show how this variation will help BJJ practitioners get that extra edge in training and competition.
Building strength, power, expolisveness, and cardiovascular endurance will be the difference when competing against an opponent with the same or similar skill level as you. Also, strength and conditioning is a critical portion of being healthy and injury-free.

How to tape a torn ligament in the finger
I tore a ligament in my middle finger during a tournament. I had to compete in the next match but the finger was badly injured and completely unstable which made gripping extremely difficult.
I had to think fast and was able to tape my finger well enough to stabilize it and was able to compete in the next match. This is what I did…
The tape used was Monkey Tape. It was strong and the adhesive held well to give me the support I needed. Also the tape was thin enough to allow me to tape around the knuckle and still allow the finger to bend.

How To Fix Thoracic Spine and Rib Tightness
I received a question on Reddit asking about how to alleviate recurrent rib injuries and muscle pulls from BJJ. The intercostal muscles (muscle between the ribs) are constantly in motion as they allow for the ribs to expand and contract with breathing and help with some stability between the ribs. These muscle can get irritated and then have a tedency to be re-irritated frequently. A dynamic warm up to help with blood flow and allow the muscles to get some light and comfortable movement will assist with reducing tightness, pain, and getting the area generally primed for more vigorous activity. Try these 4 quick exercises/warm-ups to get your body set to train.

What is the Neck Hammock and does it work?
What is The Neck Hammock? Does it work? Can you use if for recovery and pain relief for BJJ or other sports?
The Neck Hammock is a device that provides decompression on the neck (cervical spine) to take pressure off of the vertebrae, discs, and nerves.
In this video I give The Neck Hammock a try, provide the pros, cons, and whether I would recommend the product.
Decompression or traction therapy is a treatment that is used to alleviate tension on the nerves, reduce pain, and decrease tight muscles in the neck which for BJJ practitioners are common occurrences due to our forward head and rounded shoulders “jiu-jitsu posture” as well as constantly getting our necks cranked on by chokes and submissions.

BJJ Leg Stretching and Mobility Warm-Up Sequence
This video was recorded during a pre-training warm-up for BJJ. This is just a small portion of the mobility and flexibility work that I do as part of my injury-prevention sequence. The purpose is to get the body primed and ready to move. Good for general mobility, flexibility, and warming up the hips and legs.
