This video I go through some of my favorite ways of setting up the closed guard. The closed guard is one of the best positions in Jiu Jitsu for submissions control and catching your breath if you are tired. One problem most people have though is they are taught tons of attacks but no actual ways of setting up the position. In submission grappling you have two main choices for open guard: hooks inside (e.g. the butterfly guard) or legs outside (e.g. the de la Riva guard). Which should you employ?

The right style of guard depends on the exact situation. In this video Rob Biernacki takes you through the transitions from inside hooks to legs outside and back, as well as breaking down the tactical and strategic reasons you might prefer one position over the other.

this week bjj technique is a basic spider guard sweep that you must know .

This is an effective way to sweep your opponent when they counter your scissor sweep by stepping over your leg. By using the foot on the bicep we create the leverage to scoop our hips under our opponents to set the x guard position and then apply the technical stand-up sweep.
