A very common counter to the Drop Seio Nage is for the person to sprawl out to your side to take away the power of the throw and to potentially even take your back.
Here is a way to finish the throw when they do this.

O Soto Gari is a throw with many applications and variations, including this one. In this video, throwing the defender directly backwards is shown using an Ippon Seoi Nage grip.

This video shows attacking your opponent of of the “odd” side where a great deal of spinning or turning action is used. The throw that is being used is often called Sode Seoi Nage (Sleeve Seoi Nage) or Sode Tsurikomi Goshi (Sleeve Lift-Pull Hip Throw). We often refer to this throw as Hineri Nage (Twisting or Turning Throw). O Soto Gari is one of the most effective throws used in any fighting sport for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is because it is so variable. This variation shows how to use an Ippon Seoi Nage grip and throw your opponent to his back with O Soto Gari.
