Uniform Confidence: The confidence you get from wearing a badge and a gun. It’s hollow, superficial, and cracks under pressure which is the reason why we so often see poorly trained officers escalate their level of force so rapidly.
Real Confidence: The confidence you get from knowing that even without your gun or your badge, you can stay safe in a hands-on altercation with a suspect. When an officer has it, they escalate force options much more slowly and when suspects feel it they surrender much more quickly.
Congratulations Officer Kevin, the rest of the police officers in America should strive to reach your level of compassionate and composure in high stress situations. 🙏🏼

Coming in HOT from my actual garage! After getting knocked down TWICE in round 1, Charles Oliveira lands a big right and followed it with some Jiu-Jitsu wizardry that needed the Gracie Breakdown. I discuss how Justin survived the reverse triangle and then I have a very serious talk with all the dads of the world on this lovely Mother’s Day. Enjoy!

We found the hero!!!
Josh Jones was walking home when he saw a woman get attacked by a belligerent man. Without hesitating, he slapped on a “Sleeper Hold” took the man down, achieved mount, and held him there for over 8 minutes (without throwing a single punch) until the cops showed up! In recognition of his selfless act of service, we’re sponsoring Josh and his fiancé with a a free membership to our Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Center in Phoenix, AZ. If anyone has direct contact to the woman who was attacked, let her know we want to sponsor her as well! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Law Enforcement Officers have one of the most dangerous jobs known to man. Within the scope of their duties, one of the most challenging tasks is that of placing handcuffs on a person. On one hand, the officers must get dangerously close in order to apply the cuffs (on someone with unknown intentions), and on the other hand, the moment when the cuffs are being applied is when suspect is most likely to resist violently because that’s when reality sets in. Between the close distance, the likelihood of resistance, and the complacency of the officers, every arrest is a disaster waiting to happen, and this why we created the Zero Handcuffing System™ that is now part of the GST curriculum.

Let us know if you approve of this new technique on the comments. An officer from the California Highway Patrol said “Rener, we don’t have a good (non-violent) solution for protestors sitting with arms locked together who won’t disperse when asked…” Not only did we come up with a solution right there on the spot, we created a new concept called THE LAB where all the officers in attendance can share the most effective non-violent techniques used at their agency. From this day on, EVERY GST Level 2 course has a dedicated LAB session and every LAB session is recorded and uploaded to https://www.gracieuniversity.com for instant accessibility to all Level 2 certified instructors around the world! Jiu-Jitsu is the future for law enforcement, and GST is how your agency gets there!

Principle 32: Grandmaster
Using the 32 Principles to continuously improve jiu-jitsu.
From a very young age, Grandmaster Helio Gracie constantly evolved the techniques of jiu-jitsu to accommodate his frail physique. His lifetime commitment to continuously improving the art epitomizes this most important principle – the unceasing pursuit of efficiency in combat. If you haven’t yet given yourself permission to improve the art through principle-based exploration, experimentation, modification, and creation, now is the time!

Principle 31: Centerline
Limiting your opponent’s potential by taking control of their centerline.
Chess masters aim to control the center of the board, UFC champions aim to control the center of the octagon, we aim to control the center of our opponent’s body. You can apply this principle from every position. We use two methods – “splitting” and “breaking” – to compromise the opponent’s centerline. A split prevents the opponent’s appendages from crossing from one side to the other. A break traps both appendages in one quadrant. Splits and breaks make the Centerline Principle especially powerful for setting up submissions against skilled adversaries.

Principle 30: Mobility
Moving yourself when your opponent can’t be moved.
Jiu-jitsu employs many highly efficient, leverage-based techniques to move and manipulate an opponent’s body. However, sometime these techniques simply don’t work against a much larger or strongly positioned opponent. The Mobility Principle solves these problems. Any time you can’t move your opponent when attempting a sweep, submission, escape, guard pass, or takedown, try circling, sliding, separating, swinging, pulling, shrimping, or spinning to achieve your objective. Bottom line, when you can’t move them, move you.
