This has become my favorite way to isolate the limbs of a strong defensive opponent. Using the Overload Principle, the shin of my north leg drives the opponent’s arm to the ground in a direction where they have very little resistance/strength. With the inside arm anchored to the mat, I can begin attacking their outside arm with two hands to either a) catch the crucifix if they stay flat, or b) catch the D’Arce if they turn in, a perfect illustration of the Fork Principle. 🙏🏼

We posted the video on Monday night. You guys shared it. By Tuesday night at 6pm not only did we get the hero Maurice on the mat for his first class at Gracie University HQ but we also got Antonio (the boy he rescued) to start learning Jiu-Jitsu as well.

Gracie University is sponsoring both of them with year-long tuition free memberships at any of the 200+ Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Centers around the world – but both for very different reasons:

Maurice has the heart of a Lion. These skills will simply teach him to fight fire with water. If his verbal de-escalation skills ever fail, he will have the ability to physically de-escalate so that the altercation is resolved with lowest probability of injury to everyone involved.

For Antonio, learning Jiu-Jitsu will rebuild his confidence so he can hold his head high in the wake of such a brutal attack. When one is senselessly assaulted at such a young age, it can completely alter the direction of your life. At Gracie University, we won’t let that happen to Antonio.

I spoke to Dana White and he agreed to give these guys the experience of a lifetime at any upcoming UFC event. When I told Maurice and Antonio, they were totally shocked, and very grateful.

I struggled for over 14 months with what I would put on the cover of my book. Then it hit me like a bucket full rocks: a lever!

When I brought the idea to the publisher they liked the idea, and they went online and found a bunch of stock lever photos, but quite frankly, I wasn’t impressed. I asked them if they could hire a professional team to produce the cover they said no. 🥲 So rather than end up with some whack cover on my first book, I decided I would produce the cover with team at Gracie University HQ

Racquel went to the beach to collect a bunch of rocks to choose from, and Eddie found a perfect piece of scrap wood. We used some paper for the makeshift backdrop, and after several fails we finally balanced the rocks perfectly and got THE shot I dreamt of.

I love my team and I love the cover of my book.
