So there is a common misconception that I hear and its that when an injured area is no longer painful, then you are fully healed and can get back to full training…well this is not always true…let me explain.
Different types of tissue such as muscle, tendon, bones, etc can take a variety of times to heal as it is dependent on the type and severity of injury.
An important idea is to take pain levels into account, however, don’t let pain be the determining factor in your recovery.
You have to also look at other factors in your recovery such as range of motion of the area, strength of the surrounding muscles, and if you are able to perform the movements necessary for your sport (BJJ or other sports).

When you are returning to training after an injury, it’s important to…pick your training partners wisely.
Try to select a training partner you trust, of similar weight, and that has good control with their movement.
Also let your training partner know that you’re just getting back from injury and you want to move slower or if there are any positions you want to avoid.
This will help you safely transition back to normal training with more confidence and less risk or re-injury.
