#TBT to the grand opening of the new @lovatojjassociation HQ in Oklahoma City. This took place on March 1st & on March 13th we had to close our doors due to the pandemic. We re-opened this week & are now finally fully enjoying our beautiful new facility. I am so grateful to everyone who came to support this event & all of those who have been a part of my journey. I have learned & been inspired by so many. I love our martial arts family so much & am so happy to finally be writing our new chapter on these mats. #FBF to a great battle at @f2wbjj December 2018 with the beast @hingerbjj. Going for Kimuras in the bottom of half guard is something I shy away from in the 🥋, but in NoGi without the grips & friction available, I’m all for it. The key is to only think about separating their arm from their body & not overwhelm yourself trying to put it behind their back right away. Notice how I circle my left leg inside & use it against his head. That helps me break his posture & create a wedge so I can use my whole body to pull his arm out.

Josh was forced to roll but he reacted very well by inserting his butterfly hook in right away & clearing his elbow out of the lock, this can set him up for a potential back take & that is why I chose to let go & get head control.

The Kimura is one of the most versatile submissions & happens to be one of my favorites & strongest. I believe everyone should have the Kimura in their game. Maybe it’s time for a new Lovato Kimura series…🤔

To be honest, I was pretty nervous going into my match last night. Focusing on my dream to become a MMA World Champion @bellatormma kept me away from competing in the Gi for three years & it has been six years since I competed at the Mundials against adult level competition, that had me feeling a little unsure if maybe the game might had passed me by a bit. Would I be precise? Would I hesitate? Would I feel a step behind? These were the questions I had to block out. Fortunately MMA taught me how to let go, be free, & trust in your abilities. I tapped into the Oklahoma kid who fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu & gave his life to this beautiful art. I felt young again, I found my flow state & my therapy had begun. Jiu-Jitsu has always been there for me during the difficult times in my life & it taught me how to never take a moment when I get to put my 🥋 on for granted. It felt amazing to be back & I can’t wait to see my game evolve again. I don’t know how many more years I will be able to last at this level, but I do know that I have dedicated myself to having Timeless Jiu-Jitsu & will do my best to be here as long as possible 💪🏼
