To be honest, I was pretty nervous going into my match last night. Focusing on my dream to become a MMA World Champion @bellatormma kept me away from competing in the Gi for three years & it has been six years since I competed at the Mundials against adult level competition, that had me feeling a little unsure if maybe the game might had passed me by a bit. Would I be precise? Would I hesitate? Would I feel a step behind? These were the questions I had to block out. Fortunately MMA taught me how to let go, be free, & trust in your abilities. I tapped into the Oklahoma kid who fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu & gave his life to this beautiful art. I felt young again, I found my flow state & my therapy had begun. Jiu-Jitsu has always been there for me during the difficult times in my life & it taught me how to never take a moment when I get to put my 🥋 on for granted. It felt amazing to be back & I can’t wait to see my game evolve again. I don’t know how many more years I will be able to last at this level, but I do know that I have dedicated myself to having Timeless Jiu-Jitsu & will do my best to be here as long as possible 💪🏼

Emotional scenes from episode 7 of The Last Dance on @espn & @netflix. When I was growing up Michael Jordan @jumpman23 was my biggest inspiration outside of martial arts. He showed the drive & warrior spirit it took to achieve greatness. Watching this documentary has helped me realize even more how incredible he was & how much he impacted my life. This is from the 2003 Copa do Mundo where Jacaré won double 🥇🥇 as a Brown Belt submitting all of his opponents. He was on a tear that year going on to double 🥇🥇 at the @ibjjf Mundials the week after this submitting all of his opponents there as well except the absolute final against @lagartobjj. The next year Jacaré won the Black Belt Absolute division 🥋

This was Jacaré’s 2nd year as a brown belt & he was completely mauling his opponents. Dynamic judo takedowns, diving & flop passing, together with flying triangles, kimuras, & brutal chokes. So this happened today… While I was teaching for @blackbeltmag to raise funds for our first responders, Master @liboriobjj asked me a question about the Kimura series I was demonstrating. It was a special moment for me. 20yrs ago when I was kid traveling to Brazil & taking private lessons from this man who was already a legend & someone I was in awe of, never in a million years would I have imagined that one day he would ask me a Jiu-Jitsu related question. I’m sure he was just being nice, but it still made my day. During this quarantine I have done a couple of Lives with Master Liborio, one for his UCF students & one for Instagram & then we had this today. Reconnecting with him has been amazing! What a beautiful journey 🙏🏼
