NoGi Guard Passing – Where to start? – Nogi Passing Masterclass
When passing against someone with more experience, do you often find yourself getting sucked right into trouble? It might have to do with your initial approach and base!
In this clip from the Nogi Passing Masterclass I show how to position yourself properly to avoid attacks and sweeps while setting up your own guard passes. Try it next time in class and see just how effective it is.
I have just released a product that has been a long time coming. Doing nogi and passing have become a staple in my grappling game and I’m really happy to present over an hour of my best and most powerful concepts. Check it out here:

These Tips Will Improve Your Guard Passing
The message I received said that he was struggling to stay up and keep his balance in no gi. So here is my style of passing. It is a quick in your face I decide the pace of the match style.
First tip is never let someone else be the engager constantly fight grips just like in the gi. Dictate how the match will go by being first or getting a reset until you are first. by moving side to side breaking grips you will be able to see openings and get past the guard easier.
You don’t always have to use the basic bull fighter you can use the side to side motion and mix it in with your other passes you just have to find an opening.
Last tip I will leave you with is this. Most people have a weak side. This is why I go side to side to see which side I will have a harder time with. Find that weak side and cut through it.
P.S no liabilities

BJJ Guard retention drill that will take you to the next level
It feels good to be back! I hope everyone had as great of a week as me. I got stuck right in the middle of hurricane Nate on my cruise haha but I pretty much just got an extra two days of vacation so I can’t complain at all!
This is by far my favorite way to recover Guard. The granby roll is a super effective technique to stop guard passers. Once you have perfected this technique it will seem almost impossible to pass your guard.
I didn’t mention It in the video but an important thing I’m doing is when I go up on my side I am also keeping my hand down low to prevent my opponent from just getting their hooks in and taking my back.your opposite and can be used as a distance maker as you can see me doing in the video.
You want to really make sure you are getting up to your shoulder and neck to maximize your roll power. If you don’t go all the way up you will be shut down instantly.
Give it a try let me know what you think and again great to see everyone back see yah next time!
Also I am not calling out canelo my student just looks exactly like him lol

Great concept to make it past the open Guard in BJJ
The open Guard can be a frustrating position for the passer if you do not know how to deal with it properly. I am a big fan of standing passes. With my body frame it is easier for me to keep distance from my opponents legs. If you are littler it is a way to out speed your opponent. Compare to a low pass the requires the pressure, balance, and strength.
Be sure the entire time you are standing to really focus on breaking the grips. getting dominant grips is how you win in jiujitsu . Every position I get in I really have to zone in on getting the dominant grips of the position.
The main focus for this video is to Find your distance and timing the way your opponent moves their hips and legs. I like moving side to side because I can see the way they are reacting to the movements. Than I will just pick a pass and if it doesn’t work I will bail out and restart .
