Featuring Jon Thomas from https://www.grapplearts.com/openguard The Open Guard System, the newly released instructional with 5 comprehensive, step-by-step volumes that give you a systematic and super-effective method for sweeping, submitting and dominating your opponent from the open guard.
This video I discuss one of my favorite transition which is switching from a single lasso to a fat ankle grip. This is a powerful combo because it allows you to switch from an upper body control game to a dominant lower body control series with the far sleeve. Furthermore it allow to you attack the far side leg which is often the one people struggle against because they are not use to leading with the opposite leg. Hope you like the video and please comment if you have questions or requests.

Hey guys this video I go over two common guard retention mistakes that mess people up when trying to defend the guard pass. Paying attention to the angle of your hip as well as using the inside arm to frame will make a huge difference in your ability to recenter your hips. Let me know if you have any questions or requests.

This video I discuss the concept of single sleeve control. This is commonly one of the first grips you get in jiu jitsu as your opponent needs to use his hand to commit to making a grip which always makes a sleeve available. This position is a starting point for transitioning into most open guards in BJJ such as Collar Sleeve, Spider/Double Sleeve, Cross Sleeve DLR, Cross Guard, Romulo Guard, Reverse DLR and more. I cover some basics of control as well as concepts for how you can transition to other positions with it. Let me know if you have any questions or requests.

Huge thanks to @consciouskeelan and @keithkavanagh with 10th Planet Decatur for the amazing videowork on this one. And of course to 10th Planet Huntsville for allowing us to film it there after the seminar.

Drew Weatherhead, in addition to being one of the funniest people I know as seen by his famous Instagram @because_jitsu, is also an amazing jiu-jitsu practitioner and teacher. His work on the reverse kimura as a position with many submission opportunities is groundbreaking. Also, we may be related. It’s a long story and it’s weird since he is Canadian and I live in Kentucky. That’s all beside the point, though. Watch this video and then check out his course and my course. You won’t be disappointed in either.

This is my foundational attack series for the double sleeve position. The triangle from this series is what Felipe Andrew submitted Keenan Cornelius with ya Europeans this year. It’s great for beginners to advanced and provide dangerous attacks and easy transitions for modern attacks like Berimbolo, Sit Up Guard, De La Riva, as well as setting up closed guard well. I hope you like the video and please comment if you have questions.

It is important to have good leg attacks to combine with your guard passing, and the toehold from standing open guard is an extremely useful tool. This video shows the use of the toehold, how to secure it and a way you can threaten it in order to take the back in a really sneaky way. I hope you like it!

The Double Sleeve Control is my favorite open guard to teach to beginners. The basic leg past body position I show in this video is relatively simple to control, difficult to get out of, and is great for learning to transition to any other open guard. Strong Open guard basics is what leads to good opening for advance techniques like Berimbolo, Matrix, Back Takes, and more modern guards. This video I focus on the basics of control and my next video will go more in depth on attacks.

This video me and Lucas Galbusera discuss a great attack series from the de la riva when you off balance your opponent backwards for a traditional berimbolo set up. A lot of people don’t like the inversion part of doing berimbolos, this technique allows you to benefit from having the strong backwards off balance in your de la riva series but instead using a great sweep and pass sequence to finish instead of performing the full berimbolo.
