We got a question about an ole wrestling move called the cradle today in this one.
Our friend who goes by the name “Left Leg Trump” gets the cradle during his BJJ training sessions. But doesn’t know what to do with it.
For those of you who are in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and have never wrestled before. Let me lay down the basics on the Cradle.
It’s primarily a grip between leg and head and is used as an off balancing technique and a pin.
In this video I touch on how I get to the Cradle in Brazilian Jiujitsu and then I go into detail about how I use the position to setup submissions.
In the video I show how to setup one of my favorite no gi ezekiel chokes and how to turn it into a Darce Choke.
Both of these are very effective submissions that I tend to favor using in No Gi BJJ.
If you ever find yourself in this position or want some additional setups for chokes in no gi. Then try these techniques out.

This video has been trending all over China, and trending all over the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA communities all over the world, so I wanted to bring you the breakdown that you all want. Here is a traditional kung fu fighter, Zheng Jiakuan, student of failed Xu Xiaodong challenger Ma Baoguo, taking on BJJ teacher Zhang Long. We look at the match and see how the no-gi jiu jitsu teacher took on the kung fu fighter. The kung fu fighter was either unaware of jiu jitsu rules or just not good at keeping them because it was clear he eye gouged, throat hit and tried to attack after tapping. Also, do you agree with me that the rules are going to make traditional kung fu people come up with excuses like, “Long Ge won because of the rules.”
I found this match here and here

Jeffrey requested some tips on making his North South Choke in BJJ work.
Primarily he wanted to figure out to do the North South Choke in the Gi.
In the video, I explain how I prefer this type of choke in No Gi. It’s similar to a Guillotine Choke. It works in Gi Jiu-jitsu but it’s a bit more effective I believe in No Gi BJJ.
In the video I show my favorite setup that I use in Gi and No Gi. I’ve also used this choke in my last MMA fight back in 2012.
I hope the video helps you with your North South Choke in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Head jiu-jitsu instructor at Dojo Americana/99 jiu-jitsu in Vista, Ca., Mark Hopkins, is a 53 year-old black belt at around 175 lbs. In any given day a larger, stronger and younger guy will walk in my door and want to roll with me. I’ve rolled with guys as large as 350 lbs. It’s no fun, especially if they have some skills. As an instructor, I have to roll with my students, no matter what size they are. I have to represent what jiu-jitsu is all about: a smaller guy defending and overcoming a larger and stronger guy. To do this takes technical skill. And that’s what I have developed over the past 20+ years.
Now Harry isn’t super big, but he outweighs me by almost 50 lbs and is very fit and strong, and he has some grappling skill. In this video I narrate what is going through my mind as we roll. I hope this gives you, the viewer, some additional insight on what one is trying to achieve while rolling. Many beginners often misunderstand the nature of rolling. Many believe and assume while rolling, you must go 100% and go for top position. Although my takedowns are quite good for a jiujiteiro, I often play bottom position. Playing bottom position is the only way to develop a better guard and bottom game. And I feel this is where most people will lose or become defeated, while they are on the bottom.
Dojo Americana represents the NineNine team in San Diego North County. We are located in Vista and have 2 black belt instructors of different styles teaching on our mats, professor Mark Hopkins and Martin Figueroa.
