Modified Single Leg X Sweep to Side Control

From there, you let go of your grips and grab both ankles to complete the sweep and end up in half guard.

The Hip Bump Triangle!

The Hip Bump Triangle – this is one of my favorite triangles. And like many people…I found this triangle from loving the sweep and then completing the triangle as an organic combination. But what really tipped me into using this technique was when I saw Ryan Hall use this, not as a part of the sweep, but as a direct ‘attack’. It really is effective. It’s very high percentage submission and above all, it really is a lot of fun. Give this a try on the mat guys. And let me know how you go…

How To Tie Your Belt – The Right Way!

When we first start Jiu Jitsu one of the most daunting aspects can be ‘how to tie your belt’…and those that come from a traditional martial arts background find out pretty quick that their belt tying style doesn’t quite hold up to the intensity of grappling. The result – belts come off during a roll. This is no good…particularly if you are up against an opponent that likes to use the gi for gi wraps…that’s just handing them a weapon. Here is a great belt tie that I use. And I think you will love it. Watch it carefully and give it a go (if you don’t already).

Don’t Make the same White Belt Mistake I did (Tighter Keylock Tip)

Want a simple grip tweak to make your Keylock better? The trick I show in this video is great for making the Keylock in BJJ tighter.

This is one I show to my White Belts in my BJJ classes because it’s a mistake I made all the time when I used the Americana in Brazilian Jiujitsu.

I would get excited and not secure the position to finish the submission effectively. I had several tournaments as a BJJ White Belt where I had this locked up and then would lose it to poor finishing technique.

My students have really enjoyed this tweak and experienced a lot of success with them during rolling and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competition.

Toe Tuck BJJ Half Guard Sweep (Gi or No Gi)

The Toe Tuck Sweep / Position is one of the 1st Half Guard sweeps I started using successfully from this low Half Guard position I’ve shown in this series.

I say Half Guard Sweep / Position because I have numerous attacks from the Toe Tuck. So even if these sweep options stop. I have lots of other techniques I can use for my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

In this video I also share why I use this style of Half Guard for Brazilian Jiujitsu.

One reason is that I’m able to fight against the Knee Cut Pass which is a fantastic option when faced against a Half Guard position.

Another tip is that when I come up for these sweeps. I make sure to come up on my elbows in a particular way that makes this sweep effective for my Brazilian Jiujitsu game.

So if you’re trying to develop a better BJJ Half Guard game. I hope this latest BJJ sweep addition of one of my favorites is helpful to you!

Smashing the Open Guard with the Cradle

I am a big fan of using pins to advance positions, and there is no better place for pins than wrestling. It is the ultimate goal of wrestling, and they have centuries of experience.

BJJ and MMA are relatively new to the idea of pinning, as the goal is submission. So many people overlook the value of a good pin. Even wrestling is ignorant on how else to use a pin other than to pin.

So with some creative thinking and combining goals of pinning and submission fighting, we can create very powerful pins that can serve for submissions, TKO, and guard passing.

To start us off, I want to focus on the classic wrestling pin – the Cradle. Pretty much every wrestler on the planet knows the cradle. It is super simple and very effective.

A Simple But Awesome Armbar – From Guard!

This Armbar can often be used as a drill. It’s straight forward but massively effective. Like all the basics. Often when you are doing Jiu Jitsu – technical instruction can make a huge difference. Much of what I teach on this channel might fall into that category. However, sometimes the goal is to ‘get into’ that position. And that takes practice and drilling. Check out this video and then give it a try on the mat. Drill it with your training partners and then watch the massive improvement you will make in ‘getting the armbar’. Let me know how you go…
