In a recent video I talked about how I used to be unable to sit back on my heels. And how this made my worst position in BJJ being inside someones Guard.

Following that video many of you had questions about how I was able to develop the ability to sit back on my heels.

In this video I talk about the issues that this muscular issue created in my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

And then I go into detail about the stretches I used to fix it.

And for all of you who sent me the question about your tight knees, hips and quads in relation to sitting back on your heels. I hope this helps you out!

These really were the stretches that allowed me to have a strong Guard breaking ability and even cleared up a lot of knee stiffness I had.

Here are a few unique opportunities that arise occasionally, which actually make submissions available from inferior positions. It is obviously better to gain the superior position, control and take the submission safely from there…however, sometimes the element of surprise from a bottom submission can take someone off guard.

It is a really quick choke that you can easily set up from your half guard frame. It can also be turned into a baseball choke for a stronger finish if needed.

Sometimes I just use this to create space against someone who is trying to crush me, as to avoid this choke they have to move away from you. It is a nice little “cheap” trick to have in your arsenal that will definitely catch people off guard.
