Today’s video comes from Alex who’s curious why we have to roll again with the same person after we submit them during a roll. He says that in a competition we wouldn’t roll with the person again, it would be 1 and done. But in the gym he beats someone and then is too tired to execute the same attacks again in a 2nd round.
In the video I explain why we roll again. I mean the main reason is it’s training and not competition.
But even from a standpoint of being focused on BJJ competitions. It’s super important to roll in situations where you’re fatigued and unable to easily use your best Jiu-jitsu techniques. Because as any competitor will agree. At some point you’re going to find yourself in the middle of the mat exhausted and still have time on the clock and an opponent pressing forward. And while this is happening you’ll experience a sort of mental battle where 1 side of you tells you to push forward while the other says back off.
To conquer this you’ve got to become comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Hopefully the video was useful to you in some way.
Thanks for watching!

Charlee is a 7th grader in Illinois, and she was violently attacked at school two weeks ago. Yesterday, I posted a video on social media asking for your help getting in touch with her family. Thanks to all of you guys, our message got to Charlee’s family, and less than 24 hours after I posted the video I was on the phone with Charlee’s mother, Kim, who helped me set up a Zoom session to meet Charlee. Not only is Charlee the sweetest young soul, I’m delighted to say that she accepted our offer to train at the Gracie Bullyproof program at the Gracie University Certified Training Center in Elgin, Illinois! School is out so we have all summer to get her ready. With her permission I’m sharing this video so that all of you can get to know her at the beginning of this journey that we hope will shape the rest of her life. All training will be sponsored by Gracie University, but if you want to help out, please donate to the GoFundMe campaign that the family set up to help cover the medical bills and dental bills. If there is anything extra maybe they can use it to cover a travel expenses to California so Charlee can go to Disneyland and of course visit Gracie University HQ so we can personally test her new skills before the next school year starts.
