When it comes to standing guillotine success, there are two rules that govern everything: 1) never let your opponent get to the safe side, and 2) whoever initiates/controls the descent has the the advantage. Dustins’s amazing application of the Posture Principle (#16 of 32) led to one of the most beautiful guillotine defenses I’ve seen in the UFC, and if Conor would have deployed the Velocity Principle (#7 of 32) with a bit more conviction the night would have ended VERY differently.
The 32 Principles are available at http://www.The32Principles.com

In today’s video I chat with my Josh Mckinney after rolling with him and doing a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu seminar at his gym.
In the conversation we get into the idea of Black Belts being closed minded and why he embraces the idea of “sucking” in Jiu-jitsu. This came about because of his I Suck At Jiu-Jitsu Podcast which you can check out using the links below.
Josh’s Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-suck-at-jiu-jitsu-show/id1492940799
But the reality is he doesn’t suck at BJJ, in fact he is pretty good, so I wanted to know what he meant. In the video he explains all of that.
So hope you enjoy the video and be on the lookout for a sweet ankle lock technique from him later this week and if you want to follow him on Instagram use the link below.

If you’ve trained with me at all you know that one of the cornerstones of my philosophy is that you have to understand the utility of a technique and how it might change when the combative reality changes.
At almost every BJJ school, techniques are taught in the context of sport grappling and almost always with an eye towards sport competition.
And, so people learn to view a technique through only one lens, which gives them a very limited understanding of the Art.
This is why BJJ people are so comfortable defining terms as best and worst without understanding those terms are useless when expanded into other conflict arenas.
This really limits practitioner’s understanding of techniques as well as their ability to effectively use them.
Knee on Belly is an exceptionally useful technique outside of just sport grappling where it is usually viewed as just “2 points.”
The tour moves to Colorado Springs where the boys meet with wrestling Olympic medalist J’den Cox for some high level wrestling! We also get to visit the beautiful Cies MMA for the second seminar on the tour. In the Q&A Nicky drops some gems so stick it out till the end to check them out! See you guys back this week for episode 3!
