Butterfly guard has the potential to be the best position to initiate sweeps, and it also a potentially target rich environment for setting up submissions and transitioning to other threatening positions. That’s the theme of this video. In this one, I show some options of what we can do from butterfly in order to attack the arms, transition into arm saddle, and attack the legs or take the back from X-Guard, all initiated from butterfly. White belts are people, too. These options in this video are timeless, they work at every level, and I think they are great to learn early as possible, so that is why I geared this toward white belts / newer people. The main differences in basic and advanced moves are these:
1. The timing it takes to pull it off
2. The degree of simultaneously moving parts required
3. The sensitivity required to see the opportunity
