Knee injuries are very common in grappling and Jiu-Jitsu. Some of these injuries include damage to the meniscus (cartilage in the knees) and can occur from rotational forces.
The knees are a hinge joint, however also have a rotational component and if you don’t train the rotational component, then you will be more susceptible to injury.
Check out the three exercises you can include today to build stronger and more resilient knees.
The exercises include foot sweeps, isometrics, and banded exercises.
2-3 sets of 5-10 repetitions.

In this video, I answer a question from Kim, who was asking advice about how to get back to BJJ training after having an ACL reconstruction surgery in her knee.
The ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) is a ligament responsible for helping stabilize your shin bone relative to your knee and in many cases requires surgical repair if injured badly enough.
ACL Reconstruction can vary in duration and has. fairly lengthy rehab and recovery time. If you have had ACL surgery this video will be helpful, and if you’ve injured your knee and are wanting to safely get back to training BJJ, then this video has some important information to help your return to the mats.

In this BJJ Q&A, I give some ideas on how to strengthen a weak and injured knee.
In this clip, I continue to work with my training partner Ben, who is a Pro MMA Fighter and a BJJ Brown Belt.
We continue to work on Ben’s injury recovery for his knee. These exercises are also great for muscle activation, strength training, and injury mitigation.
In this video, we introduce squats along with single leg exercises to help with hip and knee stability, strength, and return to function/sport.
The techniques that I show in this video can be found in a step-by-step approach in my

Initial thoughts on the Bauerfeind Sports Knee Support and Genutrain Knee Brace. These are two of the best knee braces for grappling. The feel, support, compression, and fit are important as these braces stay in place with grappling and don’t restrict movement.
