The knee ride is the most soul-crushing position in jiu-jitsu, but only if you do it right! This video is the first part of the Top Control and Escapes module of the eight-module BJJ Foundations instructional. Floating Pins, or Uki Gatame, are a category of pinning in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu that are versatile and powerful. This is due to the combination of stability and mobility they offer the top player. Knee on belly is probably the most famous example of this style of position, but other variations exist and are also very useful for eliciting submission opportunities. In this video, I cover examples including triangles, darce chokes, arm locks, leg attacks and more. Hope you enjoy it and find it useful.

In today’s video I show I a simple escape from a tight knee on belly position for one of the channel viewers.
The question came from social media who is having trouble with one of the higher belts putting him in knee on belly. So in the video I show 1 of my favorite ways to escape the position by focusing on 1 of the weak links to the knee on belly position.
The escape isn’t easy, escaping a tight position from a higher belt never will be. But the ideas in the video could give you a fighting chance.

This is, by far, my favorite way to escape knee on belly. I recently saw a great clip shared by @studentofbjj in which my friend @sticks.and.stones.bjj is performing a great variation of this as well. So I figured I would film a quick breakdown of how I do it for anyone interested. Thanks to @ashergarami for providing his knee on belly uke services. And thanks to @momentum_andre and the Friday morning crew for the awesome training 🙏
There are many techniques you can use to escape the knee ride (aka knee mount or knee on belly) in jiu-jitsu, but this is a high percentage one that leads you directly into some very dominant leglock positions like the backside 50/50 and the 411. Taught by Rob Biernacki, the creator of Modern Leglock Formula and Cutting Edge Leglocks – check out these instructionals so that you can tap out a LOT more people and finally become comfortable playing the leglock game: https://www.grapplearts.com/the-ultimate-leglock-sale
Here are 5 of my favorite Knee on Belly Escapes. I explain in the video the escape I use is determined by my opponent and his attack and how he is positioned with his weight and balance.

In this sequence, I use a medicine ball which has been one of my favorite pieces of equipment for solo drilling.

My favorite technique from knee on belly (with the gi) – threaten the cross choke and deadlift for the back take
My favorite technique combo from knee on belly: attack the cross choke, and if they defend, deadlift back take. If they read and resist the back take, go back to the cross choke, which is tighter from them fighting the back take.
What’s up guys! In this TMG Clips video, we go over how to counter the knee on belly kimura with an armbar. The full video will be in the link below, enjoy!

Kevin talks about combinations following up a Leg Drag series.
Timing the movement and position of the guard retention is what leads to a leg drag. When 1st learning it it’s understood once drilled correctly
