If you try the lapel single leg at some point you’ll encounter an opponent who drives into you really hard in order to put you on your back and eventually knee cut you. Hope is not lost however as you still have a chance to recovery your guard and continue attacking as you still have the lapel. The Crooked armbar is a great alternative to the traditional armbar from closed guard as it doesn’t require as precise of hip and leg movements to maintain control without getting stacked and your armbar defended by your opponent. It’s simple and fiendishly effective. lower belts can have success with it even without perfect coordination. Every class I teach from @legion_ajj is on @keenanonline
When you’re trying to come up from bottom, your goal is to take away your opponents height advantage by off balancing them and breaking their posture. A great way to do this by feeding the lapel behind the leg and coming up for a single leg. The darce can be a tricky submission to get out of. The key is to focus on not letting your arm that’s caught in the submission pass the centerline of your body and position your body accordingly.
