Wrestling Wednesday ?♂️|| Hybrid style (wrestling/judo) of takedowns are my favorite. The Judo concepts of off balancing and reaping the legs have always made much more sense to me rather than leg shots. Here @dominickcruz and I drill a series of movements that illustrate this. #wrestlejudojitsu
The French love their baguette sandwiches…and their judo ? || 15,000 of the most knowledgeable judo fans in the world in attendance for the finals block here at the 2020 Paris Grand Slam. #judo
Wednesday Wisdom ? || I’ve always felt that when teaching judo, kids have an easier time grasping some of the basic concepts (falling, body movement, positioning, posture etc.) and are able to perform them at an accelerated rate compared to adults. “It’s hard to fill a cup that is already full” – the inverse of this Avatar movie quote would make sense when pertaining to my thoughts on the subject. It is easy to fill a cup that is empty. Here, 6 yr. old Axel performs a basic O goshi (major hip throw) after only learning it moments before this rep. #judokids
Takedown Tuesday ?♂️ || “Did she land first?” – Last point wins in this Sumo rules best of 5 competition between @alphacatzingano and @stunningathletics, who do you think touched the mat first? #wrestlejudojitsu
I have always been intrigued and drawn towards the most efficient way to finish a fight. As I got older I found that taking the action to the ground had substantially less impact on my body. The art of breaking an opponents balance enough for a “knock down” started to become enough – rather than a huge slam, throw or takedown. Transitions, staring from the feet and finishing on the ground, is an area I have spent a lot of time on and developed as a skill as a quick and decisive way to finish a match. Here I utilize a modified sacrifice throw entry (tomoe nage) and enter into a armbar j(uji-gatame). ?#wrestlejudojitsu
Last night reminded me of why I love coaching so much. Congratulations to @jayjay_mma on his armbar submission victory last night at @bellatormma 238. He executed beautiful takedowns, ground game, stuck to the game-plan and remains undefeated, with all 5 of his victories by submission. The future is bright ? – Looking forward to the next one!
