Today we have a question from Matt who wonders how the Chewster (that’s me!) deals with wrestlers in BJJ competitions.
So, he says he goes into competition, faces tough Wrestlers, they take him down, get up two points, and often just stay busy and holds on to the win.
He says that he often opens up to try and counteract the stalling but ends up giving up more points or putting himself in a position to get submitted.
He’s wondering if I have any tips to deal with Wrestlers in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions.
Well, of course I’ve dealt with Wrestlers in Jiu-Jitsu competitions, and I myself was a Wrestler!
There’s plenty of times I go against guys that I know I won’t take down and, in this video, I’ll dive into an idea that helps me navigate these specific types of situations.
Specifically, we will talk about which “ground” you should be fighting on and how to intelligently approach competition when you are faced with a better Wrestler.
Hopefully you found this answer helpful, and if any of you were struggling with a similar problem then I hope you found this useful to you too!
Thanks for watching!
