Want to learn how to handstand?
Being able to do a handstand is pretty cool and it can also be a really useful skill when someone is trying to sweep you.
It takes a lot of practice to master your handstands, but once you do you’ll have insane core and shoulder strength. Your balance will be on a different level, which will come handy when countering sweeps.
This is the first handstand tutorial in the Yoga for BJJ handstand program.

Beautiful BJJ Sweep From Closed Guard (shut down standing guard breakers)
I love the flower sweep. Cool thing about this sweep is I learned it the week of that tournament I just showed you. Not only did I hit it once I hit it 4 times that day!
I was thinking wow this thing really does work haha their are different grips you can use for this sweep as you’ll notice in the first part of the video. You can use and over hook grip like I did in the tournament or you can simply control the wrist. You are just trying to stop them from posting out and blocking the sweep.
I use this still anytime I feel someone starting to stand and it will keep them to where they have to pass low and play my game.

How To Avoid Getting Sucker Punched | Jiu-Jitsu Self-Defense
By definition, a “sucker punch” is one without warning, or at least without obvious warning. This video discusses not only technical considerations, but also some pre-fight cues to possibly observe preceding violent action by an aggressor.
It is always best to avoid or diffuse a situation before it becomes violent if possible. However, when talking your way out or avoiding all together isn’t an option, it is important to have a means of physically protecting yourself.

Powerful Guillotine Escape (Perfect for Wrestlers)
The Guillotine can be one of the most frustrating submission at the beginning of your journey. Never knowing where to place your head and always getting choke. It’s even worse for wrestlers. The are always using there head to drive and anytime they shoot they end up in this Guillotine position.
Keep in mind this escape is only if they have one leg in not full guard. In that case we would do something completely different.
I started using this when I saw it working for a lot of high level wrestlers that have done some jiujitsu before. They would go into the death roll and it would work every time. I had to learn to not try and come up with them because I would be beat to the punch.

How to Frustrate and Open The Guard In BJJ (+Log Splitter Guard Break)
The log splitter is a nasty guard break. Mostly for the fact that you are pretty much shoving your knee up the persons butt haha it is extremely effective and is one of my favorites I use this a lot in no gi and it is very effective against taller grapplers because their will be more room to get the knee through.
Frustrating your opponent can be a great way to get in their head sure they can break your posture but if they can’t do anything with it they are just as frustrated as you are. Most of the time this will lead them to just open up and go for anything and that’s the opportunity you cash out on.

Jiu-Jitsu Submissions | Leg Attacks & Mir Lock from Top Knee Shield
Here are a couple of interesting options for dealing with the bottom opponent’s knee shield, which can lead to some cool submission opportunities. With the right timing and response, you can set yourself up with some great options for leg attacks and possibly a Mir lock.

Submission from Mount Armbar Combo off of Cross Collar Choke
In this video I show the second of a 3 part attacking series. This is a great way to enter for the armbar off of the previous videos Cross Collar Choke.
The Cross Collar Choke and the Armbar are both high percentage moves on their own, but when you put them together in a combination attack it really makes your opponent commit to a defense, and this is where you can change directions of attack.
A couple of really powerful things to note in this video,
1. Make sure that you have the downward pressure with your knee on the top of the shoulder. This happens in the pivot as you’re laying your body on your opponents. My first demonstration partner only locks his hands and you can see that some of my problem rotating around the outside of the shoulder is becuase his elbow is exposed, you can then see when I switch partners to give a different look at the move that it is less of a problem. The more that they commit to crossing the arms to defend the choke the easier the Armbar is.
2. Make sure that you turn your body and lay on the outside of your thigh. This does a few really important things, but mainly you want to make the leg that comes over the head light so that you can clear the head with that leg before you butt hits the floor. This makes it very difficult to be stacked while also maintaining weight on your partner.
3. Also make sure to come through at the wrist for the armbar. Pulling at the wrist can sometimes overcome the hands being clasped to defend the armbar without having to do anything else, just pulling hard at the wrist.
Play with these techniques together and then when I post the 3rd video next week this will have a lot more value as a comprehensive set of attacks.
