A great question was asked to me the other day. This is my response.
I think it is great to learn from different people. Each person my teach you something that will fit into your game. Like I said in the video “one day I will teach a technique and it will work for ten people. The other people in class won’t like it” but someone else my show their variation of the move and those people lean more towards that technique. Which is fine. You use what works into your game. That’s the beauty of jiujitsu.
Not everything I learned came from one instructor. I did many privates/seminars/ even tournaments to learn different techniques. You can learn from any body style and make their technique work for your game. Most of the time my stuff came from experimenting with techniques shown in class and how I could use them to work for me.

Two options for pass the butterfly guard

This Choke is super tight! I use to hate cross chokes. I could never hit them. In fact I gave them up for years because I thought they were useless.
Than I started using this variation. I couldn’t believe it I was hitting the choke. Not on scrubs but some high level guys. It’s all about securing that grip super tight and having your elbows right.
Now another one that I will do on top of this choke is sometimes I come up for a sweep with the cross grip. I will hang on to that grip and go right to my choke.
Both of those options have been working really well for me.
Did you know that you could submit someone only using one of your legs? With a little help getting there of course.
