I recently spoke with a fellow BJJ coach who recently denied a young guy a promotion to Purple Belt because of his attitude. In particular the young Blue Belt gets very upset when he loses during training. To the point that it negatively affects his training and the environment around him.
And the coach was just curious whether or not I thought this was a good idea and my thoughts on it (from BJJ coach to BJJ coach).
So, in this video I share my thoughts on whether or not I think the coach made the right call with holding the promotion.
I hope the ideas I share in the video are useful to you whether you’re a coach or just someone training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Recently I posted a video about an older Black Belt in BJJ who was dealing with a difficult situation. If you want to watch the video, it’s here:
And in the comments to that video most of them were very positive, encouraging and people had a bit of empathy for the guy.
But with the internet being the way it is there were people who wanted to trash the guy and say that he had big ego issues. Some even said this sort of thing doesn’t happen in other arts like wrestling, boxing, judo and so on. 1 person even said BJJ has a toxic community because of the belts.
So this is a short video replying to those types of comments and my thoughts on the ideas.
Thanks for watching.

Knee injuries are very common in grappling and Jiu-Jitsu. Some of these injuries include damage to the meniscus (cartilage in the knees) and can occur from rotational forces.
The knees are a hinge joint, however also have a rotational component and if you don’t train the rotational component, then you will be more susceptible to injury.
Check out the three exercises you can include today to build stronger and more resilient knees.
The exercises include foot sweeps, isometrics, and banded exercises.
2-3 sets of 5-10 repetitions.
