Joao Paulo Ferreira​ teaches the very easy way for you to learn how to invert. While inverting is very common in Jiu Jitsu as a way to attack, sweep and take the back, not many instructors are able to break it down into a way that beginners can understand.

The most common “grappling” move among untrained people in street fights is the headlock. While it is typically an unskilled behavior, it can still be dangerous and result in damage if not efficiently and technically addressed.

In this video, I show the most common types of headlocks on the ground along with efficient and relatively easy escapes for each (if you train them sufficiently).

I’ve been doing a lot of Americana’s recently. Just ask my students! They are super effective. Why? because the rotator cuff in the shoulder just doesn’t have as much movement in that direction. This means it comes on very quickly. And the bigger stronger guys…even better! You have to be careful guys – because it does come on quickly, you need to be careful in its execution. Here is a great Gi based Choke setup for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when you have Back Mount but are losing the position, or are letting the person escape in a calculated way.

The video for today was inspired by a recent match sent to me by one of the viewers.

He’s a White Belt, and almost had the Bow and Arrow choke which is very popular in BJJ. But he lost it as he was unable to get his second leg free.

For this video I show a Bow and Arrow choke setup I like using as a bigger guy. This will get rid of the position where our buddy got his leg stuck during his Brazilian Jiujitsu match.

The choke setup can be used from Back Mount either if you’re losing the back.

You can use the setup to lay a trap for your opponent. If you secure the lapel grip correctly. The person will be unable to turn towards you which will lock the person in place. This will allow you to come up and finish the choke from a top position.

This is beneficial for a BJJ tournament situation because you maintain dominant position.

It’s also beneficial as it gives your numerous other options involving chokes and armlocks.

If you come up against an opponent that is really proficient with cross chokes. And they are able to get both grips in. Then you are in serious trouble. When a cross choke is on…it’s on! That’s why at a high level, the first defense is to stop even the first grip getting in. As beginners, you will learn this over time. Even better is to just learn it now.
