Today we look at how to maintain back position once you have acquired it. We call this movement the Chair Sit. I believe I originally heard it called that on a Ryan hall video but honestly I can’t remember. Either way, it’s one of the most important movements in Jiu Jitsu and it has to be mastered. Also, a few quick words about connection, which is one of those mystical words in Grappling. But it really is the key to understanding what some of the great teachers like Rickson Gracie are referring to when they talk about Invisible Jiu Jitsu.

These few details have helped me tremendously over the years when using the elbow escape against a larger person.
Uki Waza (Floating or Straddling Technique) is used as a counter to an opponent’s double leg takedown. This throw could also be considered a variation of Tawara Gaeshi (Bale Counter Throw). This is an effective answer to an opponent’s double leg takedown.

This video is a look at some of the most common and difficult grips you’ll encounter in the gi game. Strong grips can be stifling, really disrupting your movement and threatening with sweeps and submissions. Knowing how to shut these grips down is tantamount to knowing how to effectively attack with them.
Here is a breakdown of the contents of this video from various positions, standing and ground, of the grips you’re likely to experience and how to shut them down.
• The Taylor Swift Lapel Break
• Knuckles-in Lapel Break
• Cross Collar Grip Mitigation
• Label Grip Strip
• Sleeve Grip Twist Break
• Knee Assisted Sleeve Grip Break
• Hip Bump Grip Break
• Radial Assist Grip Break
• Pant Grip Kick Strip
• Cross Side Kick Strip
• Cross Collar Duck Under
• X-Choke Defense
I hope you like these and get some good use from them for your training and competition. Let me know if you have questions about any others that I left out of this video.

In today’s video I show a fundamental submission series from Full Guard that I learned as a BJJ White Belt that was very helpful. The position I teach in this video has also been helpful to many of my students who are a bit on the bigger side.
The submission series starts from what I call from Diamond Guard. In it I show 4 submissions.
– Diamond Guard Armbar
– Regular Armbar
– Triangle Choke
– Oma Plata
I’ve also found that this series is really useful for bigger guys like me who don’t have super quick hips and legs.
Hope the video is useful. Thanks for watching.

Brandon Mccaghren of 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu in Decatur Alabama shares one of the craziest and most elaborate of the Rubber Guard submissions, The Sorcerer.
As wild and unorthodox as this may seem, it’s actually not that unrealistic if you’re already a heavy rubber guard player.
This move requires serious flexibility and dexterity, so if you can’t get it right away, don’t worry!
If you’re interested in picking up my entire set on the rubber guard, it’s available through BJJ Fanatics here:

Tsukuri means “to build.” In other words, when doing this phase of a technique, you are building your throw. We often call this “fitting in” to a throw and that’s a good explanation as well. But by understanding that this is building phase of the throw after you have broken your opponent’s balance and posture (Kuzushi), you will do a better throw.
