Today’s video is going to be a super basic White Belt video for those of you who are newer to Jiu-Jitsu.
I am going to go over the differences between the key lock and the basic kimura. On top of that I’ll show some basic set ups for both.
These are two basic submission attacks in BJJ that most people will learn within their first year, if not earlier, of BJJ.
Although these 2 are pretty basic submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, they are often confused for one another even though they’re quite different.
Hopefully if you’re a white belt in Grappling, training No-Gi or Gi Jiu-Jitsu (or both), you found these ideas useful for you.

Today we have a question from a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner named Jacob, and he asked HOW to finish a mounted guillotine choke.
He said that he’s able to sweep his partner’s over and get into the submission but struggles to actually finish the guillotine choke if he’s in mount.
So, to help Jacob, and anyone else who’s struggling to finish this choke in BJJ or MMA, I’ll break down the basic ideas of finishing the submission, both in guard and on top.
Hopefully you find a couple of the ideas in this video useful for you.

Today we have a question from a self-proclaimed “Spazzy” White Belt.
He’s curious about the difference between someone who’s the master of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques vs. someone who knows those same BJJ techniques but is not quite a “master” at them yet.
He says the highest percentage submissions at a high-level competition are always the most basic: Arm bars, kimuras, triangles, rear naked chokes, etc.
He asks if I can explain what the different between a master and a novice of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu using the same techniques?
He can’t understand how the highest-level competitors still get caught in the most fundamental jiu-jitsu techniques.
In this video I’ll try to dive into this question through the lense of “invisible Jiu-Jitsu” and principle founded by Rickson Gracie, plus a few more ideas about learning to “feel” in BJJ.

A common issue with BJJ practitioners is tightness and its effect on their submission ability at first glance.
With that being said, today a viewer named Wes writes in and says:
“Hey Chewy, my hips are very inflexible. Do you have any suggestions on how to perform Triangle Chokes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with this problem?
This can be a very simple problem to fix if approached properly.
I’ll give you guys a few stretches to help improve your flexibility and some smaller details to help you finish your Triangle Choke.
Hopefully you found the ideas in this video useful.

Today’s question comes from Jack, a former high school Wrestler, who recently got into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
He’s getting into BJJ but feels like he’s having a lot of issues with the grips in the Gi. He was wondering if I had any particular Gi specific grip set ups for Wrestling Based takedowns.
This is a pretty common issue for former Wrestlers who transition into Gi Jiu-Jitsu, so it’s a great question to answer.
In this video I show you my favorite “Wrestling Style” takedown and set up that I use in the Gi. It also works well in No-Gi.
Hopefully if you’re a former Wrestler in BJJ, or anyone else looking to improve their takedowns in the Gi, then you found this video helpful.

Today we have a question from Derrick who feels really crummy about a recent situation at his BJJ Gym…
He is a 3-Stripe White Belt In Jiu-Jitsu, on top of being a bigger, so he tries his best to be as good of a training partner possible without hurting anyone, rolling soft in all his rounds.
Well, recently Derrick and his coach were rolling, and they ended up in the 50/50 Position and, out of nowhere, he injured his coach.
It was a complete accident and even the coach doesn’t blame Derrick.
Even though this is true Derrick still feels bad and doesn’t know what he should do to make up for the injury.
Well, I give Derrick a few pieces of advice, while also telling you a few stories about injuries I personally suffered in practices, and how I tend to deal with my own injuries when they happen in class.
Hopefully you find these ideas useful for you.

In today’s BJJ technique video I answer a question from Conrad who is getting in stuck in the gift wrap position.
If you’re not familiar, the gift wrap position is tough to deal with, and if you don’t know how to deal with it, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is going to be rough for you. The position usually happens after someone gives up an angle from the mount position and opens up tons of options for them.
So in the video I’ll show a simple way to escape the position by palming your face. Now the escape isn’t easy and you will be exposed to multiple submissions, but the escape will give you a fighting chance.
Hope the escape helps!

Today’s video comes from a BJJ coach who’s curious about how I tame my wild White Belts.
So in the video I give some ideas on how to integrate White Belts into full on Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training, and how to do so while keeping things safe and not letting their “wildness” get out of hand.
I also discuss a few other ideas that I think sometimes get in the way when people are dealing with newer BJJ students (in regards to ego).
If you’re a coach of some sort and running BJJ classes then I hope the video helps you!
