The Best Jiu-Jitsu Search Engine in the World
Many moons ago, I learned these two near side armbars from Steve Bowers and James Booth, and they have served me well. Give them a try.
Over the years, I’ve seen so many matches get stalled up when both competitors have the same grip on the collar and sleeve on the feet. So one of the things we’ve been working in my academy for the last week is how to change the dynamics of that situation to create offensive options.
And here’s one that you can check out.

I originally learned about this leg weave counter possibility many years ago from one of the Cyborg’s DVD sets, and since then it has served me well. There are few details that make it work better though, and you just might learn a few in this video.
The upa roll is an essential movement for Jiu Jitsu. It’s used to escape from mount, armbars, and side control just to name a few of its applications. And often, it’s importance gets overlooked.
But you shouldn’t neglect it.
It’s a great movement to practice, and you don’t even need a mat to do so.

The loop choke has been one of the strong attacks in my arsenal for several years, and I often think about different ways to disguise its setup. That’s why I started adding this entry in.
It’s as basic as basic can be, but it works. And the more threatening you are with the scissor sweep, the more likely it is that you will catch opponents with this loop choke.

One of the best early responses to a triangle choke attempt is a good, solid posture up. The hips drive forward, the back straightens and often the threat of the choke is destroyed in an instant.
That’s not the end of the battle for the finish though.
