Tsunetane Oda (1892-1955) was a judoka who was influential in the development of Kosen judo.

Kosen judo’s competition rules allowed for greater emphasis of newaza ( ground techniques) than in mainstream judo, and it bears many similarities to modern Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I had a chance to sit down with Professor Pedro Valente, at The Jiu-Jitsu Lifestyle Summit. Pedro is one of the most knowledgable jiu-jitsu instructors in the world when it comes to the history of jiu-jitsu. He gave a short lecture on the history and definition of jiu-jitsu.
