Quarter Guard Backstep – Into A Pass Or The Texas Cloverleaf

Hi guys, this video is from a class at the very end of 2017. It was a hot Australian day and I thought we would cover a topic on getting caught in a quarter guard – right when you are passing your opponents guard. Now normally, for many guys, this will only slow them down not stop them. But if the person that has you in quarter guard is experienced and has an underhook…well that might be a different question altogether. So, let’s change it up a bit and instead of pressing forward. Take a step back. Perhaps a metaphor for life! And now you can turn that awkward guard pass into something completely different – the Texas Cloverleaf! An Awesome Submission Series – From Mount

Being in mount is a completely dominant position. And sure, when you are up against a brand new white belt or perhaps someone on the street. You are pretty much guaranteed to finish the submission. But when your opponent has some skills developed in escaping mount – then that’s a different story. In this video, I cover mount submission in no-gi. Many students struggle with the transition from gi to no-gi submission in mount because many cross chokes disappear. However, that doesn’t need to be the case. Some Awesome Armbar Tips

The Armbar. One of the most fundamental submissions in Jiu-Jitsu. Particularly from guard. Unfortunately, we quickly learn how to defend them and this means as a submission apart from very new students they can become low or lower percentage. The effect of this is that many white belts quickly abandon this great submission. This should not be the case. A Cheaky North South Choke!

This is not a commonly attempted choke. Despite being made famous by Marcelo Garcia and how effectively he executed. But this is great. Because it’s not used that often – you will be able to get this choke on before your training partner knows what’s going on. Now when you get this choke on…your training partner is pretty much going to have to tap. But getting it on properly is the key.
