Where do you go from half guard? Well, there are a ton of options, but one of our favorites is to transition to the one leg x guard (aka “single leg x”), execute a sweep, then pass immediately. Check out the video above to see multiple-time ADCC and World Champion Andre Galvao show a beautiful sequence from half guard to one leg x guard, then sweeping to a pass!

Years ago, I learned a loop choke counter to the over under pass from a video that Bernardo Faria did with Jason Eames.
It’s something that I immediately added to my game. I caught countless people with it, and I’ve taught it as well. But lately I’ve been exploring alternative setups, and this is the result.
To see the video that I learned the original choke from, go here:

Last year, I did a seminar in the U.K. on how to deal with and pass the Half Guard.
I covered concepts and techniques on control and nullifying the opponenet’s attacks.
Here are some clips from that seminar. You can see how I teach and where my focus is.
If you’re interested in hosting me for a seminar, you can contact me at roymarshjiujitsu@gmail.com
Stopped in to train with one of my friends today, and after the class, we had a short brainstorming about the art. Things of note were some discussion of half guard frame experimentation, loop choke details, playing butterfly guard and controlling the lasso.

Do you work on something specific during your BJJ rolling? In this video from one of our Friday morning classes I was specifically working Half Guard sweeps and a slick Back Take from Honeyhole.
These techniques were specific to my current goals in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
If you want to stop BJJ training plateaus, I can’t encourage you enough to try and focus on something specific from time to time during your training.
Having specific techniques to work on really helps you sharpen your skills in a particular area.

If you’d ever like to train with the team and I. Check out my gym Derby City MMA in Louisville,KY.
Slick Deep Half Counter that I originally saw from @billthegrillcooper on his Deep Half Guard Killer set. I’m using a different grip here. We call this the Pretzel Grip ? It’s a great way to create the Marcelotine style attack without the flexibility sometimes required through the shoulder. Hope you guys enjoy this. Thanks to @consciouskeelan for the ? and @kiaya.j for being a good training partner.
