Getting caught in the guillotine choke is an emergency and you have to move fast, but you can counter the guillotine and even submit your opponent with the Von Flue choke. Here’s a step-by-step video on how to do that choke correctly.

Today’s video is from one of my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes were I went over a couple of simple Guillotine choke counters. There are a lot of counters and defenses to the guillotine choke. But these are 2 of my bread and butter defenses that have served me well over the years in grappling.

The 1st one is the roll out which is executed from a full guard style position, The 2nd one is the hop over which is super useful when shooting in for a takedown.

The hop over is generally ideal while still moving (especially with takedowns) whereas the roll out is last moment counter when they get a good snag on your neck.
