This video I discuss Guard Retention and Proper Body Positioning. When you have no grips and defend off of your back I prefer to have a tight crunch position as it reduces the elbow knee space gap for your opponent to pass into, but one common problem people have is this leads to being exposed to stacks so it’s important to learn to defend both of these passes which for me usually turns into alternating how I position my body based off of what kind of pressure my opponent is putting on me.

Can you flow?? Learning how to flow correctly is critical to developing your jiu jitsu game. Flow rolls and flow drills help keep your mind sharp, your techniques fluid, and your body from being wrecked by too much hard training. Check out the video above to see how Professor Andre Galvao teaches a passing and guard retention flow drill!

Continuing from our last video, this is a sneaky setup for the inverted triangle when your opponent is trying to pass the guard.
Guard retention drills for when someone is trying to stack pass you.
This movement sequence has been a useful flow drill for Jiu-Jitsu to activate your hips through the bridge and hip escape sequence followed by a shoulder roll.
This sequence has been useful to warm up the hips and back and is a great technique to practice guard retention or with getting more comfortable with inverting.
Make sure to start slow and controlled with the movement. It is important to avoid rolling on your neck by tucking the chin and rolling over the shoulders and upper back.

This video I demonstrate some concepts for recomposing from side control when you have already connected your elbow and knee as well as recovering when you are in north south with a strong elbow frame in arm pit. These positions are the mid step from full escaping side control and north south, yet I see many people get to these position and not be able to full escape. I like to have students start in this position and work in escaping as it’s easier than escaping full side but also necessary to be able to escape. I focus a lot on using your outside Leg to recenter as well focusing on not allowing your hip to get turned away. Please comment and leave questions for problems you have that come up when you start specific training. I would like to start giving homework to the people watching and give room to comment and ask questions so I can better address the mistakes coming up. I put up a lot of additional content on my Instagram with smaller details please follow there for more content.
