I originally learned about this leg weave counter possibility many years ago from one of the Cyborg’s DVD sets, and since then it has served me well. There are few details that make it work better though, and you just might learn a few in this video.

In this sequence, I take my training partner “Adam” through one of the best stretching and mobility sequences for groin tightness using the Butterfly Stretch position.

Adam has had recurrent tightness in the groin and inner thigh which has led to pain, limited hip motion, and has impacted his BJJ training.

In this video, he makes a drastic improvement in his hip mobility in under 5 minutes using the techniques we went over!

I apply FRC (Functional Range Conditioning) principles into the treatment which have been an integral and very effective part of my one-on-one training.

This video I discuss three main aspects of defending the over under pass. The first and most powerful tool is a strong side tilt position before your opponent enters the guard. This makes it extremely difficult for your opponent to get in deep on the position. The second is a proper frame and knee tuck to prevent your opponent from getting over the knee line. Lastly learning to drag your opponents head to the other side is the final block vs a deep over under.

Guard retention is one of the hardest skills to develop in jiu jitsu because there are so many different ways a person can pass the guard. The knee cut pass is one of the most powerful and common guard passes in all of jiu jitsu, because of this it is very important to have a good defense. There are many different variations and levels of this pass, so it requires multiple defenses. In this video I go through 6 methods I like to use.

These are some major bits of advice I wish I had when I was a white belt.
Focusing too much on winning in the beginning can create a lot of stress and frustration because you will be losing a lot, shifting to a focus of learning makes every class a success. Learning to see jiu jitsu as multiple positions rather than looking for over arching principle is another major perspective change that gave me a lot more clarity in my development. Lastly specifc training and video study were the big secrets to my long term success and development in the sport.

This video I discuss the importance of grip fighting off your back for setting up your guard and offense. Most people think of grip fighting as something you do when you are sitting up, but learning to effectively defend and control off your back is key to being able to establish an initial attack grip.
