PASSING MODERN GUARD BY PROF GALVAO

Often when you go for a Triangle the person will stack you and turn the corner and you can often lose the triangle.
Here’s an option on how to recover it.
Here is a short highlight video from the recent IBJJF Nashville Open where I won my Super Heavy Division and the Open Weight at Master 1 Black Belt. During these BJJ matches you’ll see me battling mostly with guard passing. I did have one takedown battle but the rest were fights in the passing positions.
If you watch my videos or have purchased my grip fighting series you’ll notice a lot of the stuff I teach and preach being used in the competition.
During the tournament I was only able to snag 1 submission. The rest of the competitors stopped my attempts so I won on points.
Each one of my opponents was tough in his own way and I’m happy I was able to come out on top and snag the wins for myself, my Derby City MMA team and the Team Shawn Hammonds Association.
I want to end this message with this. Much respect to all of the other Black Belts I competed against as they’re gym owners or instructors at gyms. It takes a lot of guts to get out and compete when you have eyes on you like that. So I have mad respect for all of them.
Hope you guys enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

The Single Leg RDL (Romanian Dead Lift) is one of the most beneficial exercises for many reasons.
It can help with balance, posterior chain activation and strength, back and leg health, and helps with guard passing for BJJ.
In this video we look at a basic “X-Pass” which has many similar movements and components as the Single Leg RDL.
Although this exercise has many benefits, can be difficult to perform properly. I use a modified approach using a PVC pipe which has been extremely beneficial in training and teaching this movement.
This technique has also been a great benefit in improving my balance, base, and stability with standing guard passing in Jiu-Jitsu.
*** I have just released my new warm-up that was created specifically for grapplers!

How to prevent and defend the Torreando guard pass by BJJ black belt Thomas Lisboa. The Torreando is probably the most common guard pass in which your opponent controls your lower legs at the feet or knees with his hands and then steers your legs one way while passing to the other side. This pass was originally done with a tossing motion, but nowadays (and especially in the gi) most people typically retain control of the knees and use a steering wheel motion to push your legs out of the way while they either drop their shoulder onto your belly or come around to knee mount. In this video you’ll learn 3 counters to this pass that will work both with and without the gi.
When passing the guard I like to break things down into separate mini positions with their own sets of wins and losses. In this position the grip fight battle I am looking to establish a strong passing position and my opponent is looking to entangle me in a guard he prefers to play. I often utilize toreando and knee cut passes as a method of passing my opponent a common defense to these passes is going wide legs, in this situation I like to utilize leg pins to help set up my passes and next positions. Comment and let me know which position you would like me to cover next or more in-depth on this topic.

Known by many names like the Wilson pass, the Tozi pass, and the Chim pass, the Sao Paolo pass is one that I first tried to add to my arsenal back when I was a blue belt.
I ran into all kinds of difficulties with it, but over the years, I came back to it time and time again with new adjustments, but recently I stumbled on one that may just change everything for the better.
It’s just a small difference in grip placement that I learned from a video that Leo Nogueira did on the topic in a video with Bernardo Faria.
And this video delved is into exactly what that adjustment is and why it matters.
