Here’s a way to get a fast submission from the 50/50 position. I like to quickly sweep or submit when in the 50/50, and this is one way you can end the match fast.
What do you like to do when in the 50/50 position? Let me know in the comments!

Whether you’re competing or find yourself in a street situation the Arm-drag should be on the top of your list. This move if simple and powerful and has been used in all levels of competition. If you have drilled your arm drag thoroughly anyone who reaches his arm out to touch you will wish he or she didn’t. Be sure to drill this move so you don’t get pushed around.
This is an effective variation of Yoko Guruma (Side Wheel) and can be (and is) used in all grappling sports (whether in a “gi” or “no gi” situation), including MMA. Yoko Guruma is one of the 15 throws of Kodokan Judo’s Nage No Kata (Form of Throwing); giving credence to the point that some things are “so old fashioned they are cool” and if applied right, stand the test of time. This is also an effective transition from standing to groundfighting. Coaching by Steve Scott with Derrick Darling and Mike Pennington demonstrating.
Here is an effective and nasty application of Sode Jime (Sleeve Choke) when holding an opponent with Kesa Gatame (Scarf Hold). Coaching by Steve Scott with Derrick Darling and Mike Pennington demonstrating. For more information on strangles and chokes, get GRAPPLER’S BOOK OF STRANGLES AND CHOKES by Steve Scott and published by Turtle Press.

Fourteen years after they met in Japan, at Pride 10, Renzo Gracie and Kazushi Sakuraba will clash again this Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Metamoris 5. GRACIEMAG caught up with Renzo for a exclusive interview about the rematch. Renzo recollects the battle from the year 2000, when Sakuraba broke his arm with a kimura lock, reflects on what that moment represented in his career and life and also talks about his preparation and what he expects from the new encounter.
