This technique is an example from the Russian Gripping Masterclass, where we learn the system to controlling your opponent’s arms, so that you can play them like a puppet.

To grapple with your opponent you have to grip them somewhere. You can do so randomly, on a whim and find out how that goes for you. You can grab something different every time, maybe a wrist today, an elbow tomorrow, the pants a different day.
Or… you can follow and later on – create your own SYSTEM. With a system you can play to your strengths and negate your opponent’s offence before it even begins.
If you want to get some ideas from my current gripping system (which I adopted from my Russian wrestling sparring partners) go to https://kitdaletraining.com/products/russian-gripping-masterclass-by-kit-dale-an-aussie

Muscle imbalances occur not only in BJJ, but from life in general. Most of the things that we do throughout the day places us in a forward head and rounded shoulders posture as well as a bent trunk along with bent knees and hips.
A great way to think about muscle symmetry is to stretch the areas that are tight (neck muscles, pec, front of the hips, and hamstrings), while strengthening the areas that may not be activated as much (back of the shoulders and shoulder blade musculature, glutes, and outer hips).
These are just general guidelines and just because muscle are tight does not mean they are strong and vice versa, muscles that are stretched/loose are not necessarily weak, but these are just general guidelines so take this information with the idea that there are variables and not absolutes when discussing posture and muscle symmetry.
Here are a few of the videos I recommend but there are plenty on my page and other pages so feel free to explore and see what works!
Also, check out my e-Book for healthy shoulders, which is a good place to get some solid stretches and strengthening exercises as well!

How do you adjust Takedowns and Half Guard when strikes are involved? This is the question I received from my buddy Fisk.
And this is a question a lot of people have. How does Brazilian Jiu-jitsu translate into a fight situation. Whether a street fight or self defense situation or an MMA fight.
In this video I go over the basics of how to use a take down from Wrestling or Brazilian Jiujitsu in a fight situation where strikes are involved.
The big keys are
1. Controlling the distance. Either being “In” or “Out” and not allowing yourself to be in optimal striking range for too long.
2. Urgency is needed. So when you go into the situation. Whether a takedown or a guard attack from the bottom. You have to really go for it with a sense of urgency.
3. Using strikes to cover your attack. So if I’m going for a takedown or some technique. I will use strikes to help set things up.
So big thanks to Fisk for the question. And if you maybe have a similar question. Then I hope the video was helpful to you!

Have you ever looked at some of the higher level people in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and wondered if you could get to that point with your competition abilities?
This is the question from our friend George who is new to BJJ and wants to become a high level BJJ competitor. But his worry is that he is too old. He’s 18.
In this video I share the fact that I think it’s more than possible for him to become high level in Brazilian Jiujitsu if he goes after it. But ultimately what I think doesn’t matter.
What matters is that George takes action towards what he wants. That’s the only way he will find out if he can truly be a good Brazilian Jiujitsu competitor.
I also touch on the mental block that seems to be coming with our friend.
If you’re interested in being a BJJ competitor or have a dream that you’re chasing. I hope this video is useful to you.
Thanks for watching!
