Some people don’t exactly have the longest legs, with that being said, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the Triangle Choke is known as a technique for “lengthy” grapplers exclusively.
This isn’t true.
In this video I’ll go over finishing the Triangle as someone who’s not lengthy, both for traditional Triangle chokes and the Mounted Triangle.
The big focus will be on getting an angle to secure a tighter choke, plus a couple extra small details that can make or break your finishing ability.
I’ll also talk about some of the common issues us short legged grapplers have with finishing the triangle and how to optimize this technique for our own Jiu-Jitsu Game.
Hopefully these details help you finish more triangles in Jiu-Jitsu (or even MMA), both from bottom and mount.

Today’s we’ve got a question from a follower who we’ll call “Bob”.
Bob say’s that it’s a bit embarrassing but sends it anyways.
Bob has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for several years now, but they feel so much anxiety and nervousness when it comes to rolling with better people, or bigger/stronger people, even though they’re 230lbs themselves.
They say a lot of times when they go against these type of people, they build them up to be much more than they actually are, even if Bob is bigger than this person.
They say during rolls that they’re “fight or flight” kicks in and they tend to only roll with the smaller people because they “hate feeling powerless, hate being submitted, and hate being scared of rolling with the bigger/better/stronger guys.”
He sends me the message asking, “any idea on how I can be less scared rolling with these bigger/stronger guys?”
I actually choose to answer this, versus many other questions I received, because I have personally dealt with this.
We’ve all got some mental baggage.
Mine is anxiety and I have had to find strategies to deal with it. This means anxiety with Jiu-Jitsu is something I had to deal with a lot too. This was true for practice and competitions.
In this video I’ll give you guys a few things I did to keep the anxiety out of “the driver’s seat” that really have helped and continue to help me a long my BJJ career.
Hopefully this helped you out Bob, and hopefully this helps anyone else out there that feels like they’re dealing with something similar.
